  1. a, The 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) for a particular agent was defined as the drug concentration which results in a 50% reduction in cell number to the untreated control. IC50 values were determined directly from semilogarithmic dose-response curves. The means were obtained from the experiments carried out at least in triplicate.
