From: Epithelial to mesenchymal transition induces stem cell like phenotype in renal cell carcinoma cells
Schematic representation of EMT in renal carcinoma cells: A498 cells treated with CsA/TGF-β show downregulation of epithelial markers and upregulation of mesenchymal markers. This is followed by concomitant increase in invasiveness, migration, drug resistance and expression of stem cell like phenotype. This suggests that transition from epithelial to mesenchymal phenotype leads to acquisition of cancer stem cell phenotype
