The photomicrographs are of 12 to 15 μm thick sections of a C/16 murine mammary adenocarcinoma after immunohistochemistry to detect the presence of CD 31 antigen, a marker for blood vessels. Blood vessels (arrowheads) are visualized by the presence of the dark stain for CD 31. Areas of viable tissue are seen adjacent to the blood vessels. Necrotic areas (*) are located further from the blood vessels and contain condensed nuclei and cell fragments. Notice the regular spacing of necrotic and viable areas.
