The interaction between USP5 and β-catenin leads to the deubiquitylation of β-catenin and inhibition of proteasome-mediated degradation of β-catenin. Stabilized β-catenin then enters nucleus, activates the transcription of target genes, promotes cancer cell stemness, invasion, metastasis and tumor initiation
